A new study shows the dangers of bisphenol A, but this time in pregnancy. And these are girls most affected.
The National Health Security has recently revealed that bisphenol A poses a risk of human toxicity. On Monday, here's a new U.S. study shows that girls exposed to this component when they were in utero, have more behavioral problems at age 3 years than those whose mothers had ingested a lower level of this chemical compound widely used, according to a study published Monday. And this study, led by the School of Public Health from Harvard University, also shows that the consequences are multiple: anxiety, depression and hyperactivity are found more in girls whose mothers had significant levels of bisphenol A the urine during pregnancy.
Girls more vulnerable than boys
"This trend is more pronounced for girls, suggesting that they are more vulnerable than boys to exposure to bisphenol A in utero," says the study published in the journal Pediatrics, dated Monday. The study draws on the questionnaires completed by 244 parents questioned the conduct of their children. Bisphenol A, chemical compound widely used in objects of everyday life, is present in most rigid plastic bottles, cans or cans. This correlation has not been demonstrated with regard to boys, the study did not reveal either any link between the presence of BPA in the urine of children and their future behavior. "None of the children had clinically abnormal behavior, but some of them had more behavioral problems than others," said the lead author of the study, Joe Braun.
This study seems to confirm previous surveys suggesting a link between exposure to bisphenol A during pregnancy and the child's behavior, but it is the first to demonstrate that the period in utero is the critical moment in which bisphenol A can produce effects alteratives. "There is an important debate on the toxicity of exposure to low levels of Bisphenol A and the results presented here deserve further research," says the study.
Banned in France since 2010 in baby bottles
In 2010, France banned the manufacture of bottles from bisphenol A, the European authorities, they decided to ban their production and marketing in June. Belgium looks for its subject. A bill was indeed introduced in the Senate of the country in May. It seeks to prohibit the use of this product in the receipts and credit card receipts. The chemical component, which is considered a hormone disrupting or endocrine disruptor, is banned in France after 2014 in all food containers, but in 2013 the case of products intended for children under 3 years.
