Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of breast cancer

Even consumed in small amounts, alcohol could increase the risk of breast cancer. According to a study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association, drinking three to six glasses of wine per week would increase this risk by 15%. The ratio rises to 51% for the consumption of two glasses of wine a day

For this study, 105,986 women were followed from 1980 until 2008. According to the experts' conclusions, regardless of the nature of alcohol consumption may increase the risk of breast cancer, whether wine, beer or spirits.

Risk factors for breast cancer
- A diet high in trans fatty acids:
- A French study conducted by researchers from Inserm and Institut Gustave-Roussy, the disease has been twice as common in women with blood high levels of fatty acids "trans" ( partially hydrogenated vegetable oils) from industrial sources.
- These fatty acids are especially manufactured goods, such as breads sold packaged in supermarkets, pastry, cakes, chips, pizza crusts ... The researchers recommend limiting industrial processes generating these fatty acids "trans" and that their presence in products is clearly indicated.
- Overweight: After menopause, being overweight appears to promote tumor development. Breast cancer is no exception. Do not let too many pounds to settle matters. In addition, the subcutaneous fat women wrapped stimulates an enzyme called aromatase. It converts androgens (male hormones) to estrogens, the known role in breast cancer.
- Inactivity: Walk briskly for at least thirty minutes each day to the household actively prefer the stairs, a sporting activity once a week, 40% would reduce the risk of cancer. This effect is also observed in those with a family history or who are thin. The reasons? Decreased levels of estrogen, changes in growth factors and immune function.
